Production Manager
New York Theatre Workshop, one of the city’s leading not‐for‐profit
Off‐Broadway theatre companies,
seeks a Production Manager. For more than three decades, NYTW has provided
a home to artists to hone
their creative voice, a space for them to develop their projects and a
platform to produce groundbreaking
work. NYTW is renowned for a long list of acclaimed work including Jonathan
Larson’s Rent; Glen Hansard,
Markéta Irglová and Enda Walsh’s Once; Rick Elice’s Peter and the
Starcatcher; Tony Kushner’s
Homebody/Kabul and Caryl Churchill’s Far Away, A Number and Love and
Information. NYTW’s productions
have received a Pulitzer Prize, 17 Tony Awards and assorted Obie, Drama
Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards.
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the production
department of an ambitious $5
million theater producing four full productions annually as well as
developmental workshops throughout
the season. Reporting directly to NYTW’s Producing Manager, the Production
Manager oversees a full‐time
team that includes a Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director and
Costume Shop Manager. The
Production Manager develops the annual internal production calendar,
develops and maintains production
budgets, hires and supervises all full‐time and show‐by‐show production
positions, liaises with stage
management, production department heads and front of house for each
production, liaises with Directors
and Designers on design consultations, coordinates design presentations and
leads production meetings,
and ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations. The
Production Manager also assists in
other general duties that include the production aspects of NYTW’s annual
benefit and leading the
production department’s efforts in outside shop projects in conjunction
with the Technical Director.
The ideal candidate will be eager to work in a fast‐paced environment with
a growing range of projects,
from developing and producing new productions from the ground up in our own
theatre to presenting
exciting productions to producing new work off‐site. This candidate will
have five or more seasons of
production management experience, a proven technical aptitude, demonstrated
leadership and
management experience, and strong communication and organizational skills.
Word processing, Excel
spreadsheets, advanced understanding of budgeting and scheduling, and
knowledge of safety requirements
and special permissions needed, including temporary permits of assembly and
open flame permits, is
required.
This is a full‐time, competitively salaried position with benefits. Start
