Lovely idea, but Germany (Europe) is a lot smaller geographically than the USA and the trains make long distance travel more affordable. We still have many, many kids who don't have enough food to eat or even a pencil/paper at home to do homework. I used to have to fundraise to take my kids to see a show that cost $6.50 per person including transportation because the parent's couldn't afford it.

Trying to be political neutral here, but history is there and we can't
change
it (although some authors truly try) . In Germany, every student
is required
to tour a Holocaust site and/or museum and write a report
about it. Seems
like a reasonable idea to me. How about every US
student has to visit a
Confederacy or battle site or a slave plantation
and write a report about it.
Actually easier just to see "Roots", I guess.
