Sounds like a Y2K type problem.  Short cuts can equal short sightedness.

I remember Win 1 and Harvard Graphics!  What a revolution at the time.

I also remember that Apple appropriated the desktop (MAC) paradigm from 
another company and ended up in a lawsuit which was settle out of court.
