Do you have some plexiglass in house for experimentation? If not, is there a
plastics shop locally that you could query/visit?

When you subtract the 12" pedestal diameter, you will have 15" overhanging the
pedestal. I would think that 1/2" (or even thinner) would be sufficient,
unless you are putting heavy stress on the top.

But you might want the heavier weight to make the table less likely to move
around if accidentally bumped by a cast member.
