[SML] turning off light boards

Was visiting someplace (a college) a while ago and they often left their board on during the rehearsal and run of a show.....yes 24/7 for about two weeks. Is there some reason for this? I've seen it done with special events that were a few days but nothing usually this long. One version or another of an ETC product hooked up to older CD-80 racks. Thoughts anyone? no.....not volatile core memories, not resistance piano boards that you turn off but in the on position, not bad computers that won't restart. Other thoughts?
