Try for 17 years.  Yes we could save money on energy, but among the 
reasons for keeping it up are:

Afraid (maybe not justifiably so) that it won't come up.  Or forget things.
A belief (again no justification just a superstition) that frequent 
on/off cycles are worse than continuous running.

Need it operational without waiting for power-up cycle.
Many users have no idea how to power up some of the systems.

Of course our venues are used daily (at least school day daily), some 
multiple times a day.

While we do power off or schedule sleep times for most monitors (hang 
over from crt days), most all other equipment is left running 24/7, 
including.   Amp racks, audio mixers and accessories, light boards, 
dimmer racks, video switchers and routers, and computers.
