The line between projectors and moving lights is getting so thin and blurry now that I can only imagine that we'll see more and more of those combining in the future. That being said, I think there will always be times and places for conventional fixtures, simple moving lights, and dedicated projectors. I'm sure we'll continue to see applications for LEDs, but I don't think that they will completely replace everything else (or even everything conventional). Adding tools to the toolbox doesn't necessarily mean losing the older stuff.
I think any consultant who is specifying a theater at this juncture without a dimmer room (for whatever combination of dimming/routing/networking/whatever will come), or distributed circuiting, or powerful HVAC, or sufficient power for the kind of lights we use today, is simply being unrealistic. There are worse things than erring on the side of too much space, or too much Air Conditioning. I know they have to take cure needs into account. But the gear of today tends to have a longer life than anyone gives credit for, and the future is still a guess. Even educated guesses are still guesses at the end of the day.
