Well…
It looks like James found a Class 1 Bluetooth mic that runs on a single aaa battery…
So I may have spoken prematurely.

Hi Jon,
I’ve never used Bluetooth wireless mics, but I do know a little bit about Bluetooth from developing products.

If I had performers coming into a venue with their own Bluetooth wireless mics… I’d be a little freaked out.

There are 3 classes of Bluetooth:

· Class 3 devices have almost no range (1-2m), and are very low power. This is what used to be in mobile devices. They can use tiny little batteries.

· Class 2 mobile devices usually have a range of 10m or less, line of sight… these could be run easily off a battery pack, or even a single decent sized Li-ion battery. This is what is found in many current mobile devices (tablets, smart phones, etc). This is probably the power that your performers will have.

So I suspect that the receivers will need to be very, very close to the performers.

· Class 1 Bluetooth devices (typically very power hungry, and with long antennas) can go as far as 100m. this is similar to an old wireless router (B/G) These are less common, but when you find them they are usually wired into laptop and desktop computers.

Howdy y'all... I have an international performance group coming in early next month, and, through semi-effective cross-lingual diplomacy, their rider says they'll be providing their own "mini-microphones" to augment the microphones they've asked the venue to provide. Of course, I asked what a "mini-microphone" was, so I could make sure we could integrate/accommodate... and the response, from the person who has a seemingly terrific grasp of English, said they're "bluetooth-based wireless microphone" (and not to worry - if they don't interface, they'll use whatever we have.... but... we don't have....)

Anyway.... anyone know of such a beast? If such a thing exists, what am I in for??
