The Assistant Technical Director assists the Technical Director in all
aspects of oversight of UNA’s performing arts facilities, which
currently includes Norton Auditorium and the George S. Lindsey Theatre
(black-box). The Assistant Technical Director will work under the
supervision of the Technical Director and in collaboration with the
faculty and production staffs of various performing arts groups from
the departments of Entertainment Industry and Music, and other various
touring groups and university events scheduled in the space.
Essential Job Duties
•Provide technical support for university and outside clients making
use of Norton Auditorium, the George Lindsey Theatre, and other
associated areas. This may include:
•Front of house management;
•Operation, installation, and maintenance of theatrical/entertainment
lighting systems;
•Audio playback system operation, and/or live sound reinforcement mixing;
•Basic theatrical rigging;
•Follow spot operation;
•Event stage management;
•Operation of specialty scenic and technical elements required by
individual productions/events;
•Setup of lecterns, tables, chairs, risers, portable orchestra shells
and other special event furnishings as required by events;
•Build, repair, paint, and install scenic and technical elements to
for UNA-sponsored events/productions;
•Supervision & scheduling of technical support staff;
•Enforcement of departmental/university rules and regulations
regarding the use of space;
•Providing point of contact service to potential clients of Norton
Auditorium and the Lindsey Theatre on behalf of the University.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
•Knowledge of MS Office products;
•Ability to work ‘non-standard’ work hours, weekends and, if
necessary, holidays;
•Ability to climb ladders, and work at heights in excess of 50’ (16 m)
using appropriate safety equipment and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required OR minimum of 6 years’ full-time work
experience in theatre, entertainment production, or a related field;
• Verifiable practical experience in three or more of the following
areas is required:
– Box office/front house management;
– Stage/entertainment lighting;
– Stage/entertainment sound reinforcement and operation;
– Theatrical rigging/operation of counterweight rigging systems;
– Stage management;
– A/V presentation technology;
– Stage carpentry.
