Okay gang,

If we want to be true hardcore language police, the original meaning of lecture is where scripture lessons are chanted or read.

The meaning of words change over time (whether we like it or not).

That said, I still always use podium for the thing you stand on and lecture for the thing you stand behind.  ;-)
