[SML] Fire hoses was Re: Cell phone lasers

I wonder sometimes when we ask the powers that be for training why we don’t often just do the training ourselves. Are we afraid of litigation or other issues? Not trying to bash anyone, I am genuinely wanting to know. I always find the health and safety people are receptive to training where I work.

Do any folks out there do training on extinguishers, fire curtains, etc?

I have been around theatres a couple of time where someone’s quick thinking with a fire extinguisher saved the set piece and ultimately the theatre. If we had all evacuated and let it burn it could have been millions of dollars. As it was, it was a set piece that was cleaned up and the smoke machine was out of commission until a new one could be purchased.

University fire officials removed our hoses as unnecessary gear in a system update several years ago. And when I've asked about extinguisher training for my upper-level student crew I've been told that we shouldn't be fighting fires, just evacuate. I understand the intent but why, then, do we have them all over the building? That's usually met with a blank stare.
