[SML] stage gunfire noise levels

We have not used blank firing weapons on our stage for well over
fifteenyears, we use home-made wooden prop guns and slap a board on the
floor. I truly believe that in every case the effect has been superior to
the use of a blank firing pistol in that the prop is much less distracting
to the audience and more closely fits the style of the individual
production....which after all is a stage production not a movie. The noise
of a skinny but thick hardwood slat slapped/clapped onto our pine floor has
been more than sufficient for the audience to jump in their seats and comes
closer to what the imagine thinks is the sound of a gun than the sound of
an actual 22 blank.
