[SML] Marley-type floor covering question.

My first Marley-type floor covering lasted six years. I'm buying my
second round. The first covering I bought had terrible problems with
ripples, and I want to avoid them this time.

Here's the question: A very knowledgeable person at Entertainment
Floor Systems says that the ripples happen because the air underneath
the floor covering expands and contracts. I respect their knowledge,
but there is only an infinitesimal amount of air in the gap between
the floor covering and the subfloor. I just can't believe this amount
of air could do that much expanding. I recognize that the people at
EFS are more knowledgeable than myself, but I'm having a hard time
grasping this. What do you think about this theory? Could it be
wrong?

In any case, my strategy this time is to invest in an "industrial"
electric blanket, and occasionally laying that blanket on the marley
over night to smooth out the ripples. Maybe this would be done once
on a different patch of the floor each night, and rotate the patch
around the room. Does anything think this could work?

Thanks for advise, Chris
