I second the vinyl beach ball route.  You can purchase them in a great variety of colors and sizes. First, be aware that the industry standard is to measure them UNINFLATED. A white one 48"[35" dia inflated] $14.88, at www.beachballs.com .

There are also beach balls, that feature a tube through the middle, to permit you to put a light source inside. The above site called them "glow-ready"
