In PA it is legal to eat yours or someone elses roadkill.  My coworker (a teacher) got a call from his wife that a deer was just hit and was dead in his driveway.  He talked her through on the phone how to field dress it and he butchered it when he got home. 9 months later she called my coworker again to say a neighbor called and had seen a deer hit and wind up in their yard. He was going to talk her through field dressing again and she said “it is already dressed, I just wanted to let you know it was ready to be butchered so don’t stay late.  I can’t even imagine my wife touching a deer, let alone gutting one.  Just to tie it back in, I am pretty sure they served some of the venison barbecued.
