Great idea, Clay!
Having taken a year-long theatre hiatus to get ready for retirement from
my (non-theatrical) day job this past Dec. 31, I'm back in the saddle
directing and designing the set for an independent production of Anne
Washburn's insanely wonderful "Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play" on the
recently refurbished mainstage of our local community college, which is
launching a plan to bring more indie/community shows to their facility
when it's not occupied with their own productions.
Just got it cast, am working on assembling a production crew and pulling
together design ideas (with a few other local SMListers lending their
talents, I hope. We start rehearsals June 13 for a two weekend run
bracketing the August solar eclipse (we're smack in the path of
totality, and hundreds of eclipse tourists will be camping on the
community college campus that weekend, so we'll be part of an Eclipse
Festival the college is throwing to entertain them. We're hoping to
scare up a pre-show TED Talk-style speaker for our Aug. 2099 matinee to
give a brief talk about the historic/cultural connections between
eclipses and apocalypses, which is right in keeping with the play's
apocalyptic theme.
It feels great to be back in the saddle! If any Oregon list members feel
like coming down to see the show, ping me - I'm pretty sure I could
arrange for free tickets. :)
