Dry ice is problematic.

It will take far more than 1 pound, but 60 pounds would be overkill if you
only need to cover the stage once for a short time.

How fast do you need the vapor to cover the stage? You most likely will need a
heavy duty heater submersed in boiling water - along with a fan to blow the
vapor through a large hose onto the stage.

You probably won't be able to keep that much out of the pit, unless you put up
a barrier several feet tall. Even then, if there are any holes between the
stage and pit, CO2 can enter that way. You will need a high quality CO2
detector/alarm.

Using a fog machine and finding a way to chill the fog is a far better solution.
