[SML] Cell phone use in venues

Ok, I have returned from the taping of Murphy Brown where these were used. They told you to turn off the phones before they were locked in the neoprene purses, locked with a magnet mechanism exactly like the security tags on clothes at the department store. The phones were AGAIN inspected to be encased at the metal detectors.

There is no special Faraday Cage ☹ . and indeed silence seems to be dependent on the state of the pre-encased phone. The friend I was with told me she was required to use the case when she was an extra on a film in Philly earlier in the year.

Thoughts on the Murphy Brown taping: I forgot how much I enjoyed working on a set. I forgot how tedious 5 hours as an audience member at a taping was - now without my phone. The cast all did great. I am not sure how I feel about the fact that I noticed that the returning four are white, the new IT guy is Indian, the copier repairmen and the SM were African-American, and the kid washing glasses behind the bar is Hispanic - seems to be a minimal amount of upward mobility.

I was just in a government office where I occupied the waiting room for hours.  The guard there was sure to tell people to turn off their phones any time they made a sound.  Well, except for the two times HIS gave message alerts...

Are the boxes the phones go in lined with any sound-absorbing material? Could double as padding while muting the obnoxious sounds a bit.

Maybe have a phone check room like the old hat checks?  For an extra fee you could charge their phone during the show.
