An appropriately accomplished actor reacting vocally to the break would focus the audience's attention on it and drown out any sound effect you could spend a lot of time and money creating. "Just sayin..."

Subject: [SML] Ideas for break-away mug

I've been asked if I can make a break away beer mug.

I was thinking if using a simple plastic mug, And cutting it into several pieces, that are held together with perhaps a magnet. Then decorating it to look like a decorative beer stein, to hide the cuts I've made through it.

However I also think it needs an appropriate sound effect. And In our intimate theater, I think the sound has to be from the object.

So I'm trying to think of something I could put in the mug, to give it at least a little of the sound of a ceramic mug breaking. Of course, a ceramic mug doesn't have all the tinkling sounds of a wine glass. So maybe just something as basic as putting some wood weight in the base may help a bit to hide that this a plastic object.

Any other suggestions?
