MTI seems to lead the pack, in terms of the number of popular plays that
it license. Perhaps that gives it the luxury of doing poor work and yet
raking in the royalty fees. One was so bad, everyone had constant
struggles trying to read text and music. You would think a musical from
the 40's or 50's would warrant something better than a poor xerox of
someone's script that had partially erased pencil marks, and the
ever-present inconsistencies between script, vocal score, and musician's
score.
Are there any companies that are known for providing good scripts and
scores? They deserve our attention, and hopefully the copyright owners
will also get pressured to change to a different company to manage their
musicals.
