WOW!!!
Don, it sounds like both a fantastic end 2019, and a great year ahead!
That is a lot of creativity. I’m thinking I need to make some time to head out to the Pacific NW, to hang out with you.

Congratulations.

My new year begins with a trip out to the NAMM show this week (presenting in an ESTA class, and of course spending some time on our booth), followed by a (hopefully) quiet week, then off to China to oversee the final manufacturing on several new product launches, and then straight into USITT, and ProLight & Sound (overlapping in Texas and Frankfurt… this year I’m on the USITT Lighting Commission, so I’ll be in Texas, even though we’re doing some major Product launches for both Chauvet and ChamSys in Frankfurt), then back home for a couple of weeks before heading to NAB in Vegas… then a probable second trip to China to prepare for a complete product refresh in one line, and the launch of an entirely new product line at InfoCOMM show in June… then (hopefully) some actual relaxation in July and August.

In terms of creative outlet, I’ve started fiddling with some chandelier designs, and also am playing with mechanical clock building (from a kit, at first), to just keep my brain working. I’m also continuing to slowly transform my modest back yard into a tropical fruit farm (not really, I have less than a quarter acre, but I do have banana, mango, papaya, coconut, lime, and tangerine trees).

I usually try to make some time to gig at a local theatre, or design a couple of shows… I’m not sure I’m going to be able to swing that this year.

It's been quiet, and I've been quiet, but it's been anything but hum-drum.

I bought an old van, not wanting to test the Canadian border in my gaily decorated 69 VW bus, rigged it up for camping, and spent 3 weeks in the Canadian Rockies. Enjoyed the conversion but decided it's too small. Bought an extended length E350 with a lid, tore out the seats and the wheelchair lift, (anyone need one cheap? shipping is prohibitive,) and it's almost ready for next camping season, which will begin with the 44th Annual Easter Beer Hunt in Aguanga, CA. You're invited. I can stand upright inside, and there's at least 3 times the storage I've ever had.

I had done the lights, years ago, for a production of The Last Days Of Judas Iscariot. The same director submitted it at another local theater, and I auditioned, knowing there were lots of small character bits. The bastard cast me as the Judge, who never leaves the stage. Honestly, I may never try to learn lines again. Which is why I'm enjoying season 7 of the Reader's Theater project so much.

I'm directing Strange Snow for the Readers Theater this month. No men showed up at auditions. I cast three women, who have plenty of talent. The management and publicity people asked, 'How are we going to spin this?' I said, 'We're not even going to mention it. We'll proceed as if it is a perfectly normal event for women to read men's roles.' Rehearsals are looking good.

In last November's Readers Theater, I played Neil in Jane Andersen's The Quality Of Life. Exquisite script. Exquisite cast. We made everyone cry.

I also acted in an evening of short pieces, for Veteran's Day, by local writers who had interviewed local veterans, and scripted some of their stories. A little uneven, but very moving, and very well received. I believe it will be made available, without royalties, if you're ever looking for that sort of thing.

Not sure how this year turned into such an on-stage year.

I'm playing in two different bands, still writing songs, and generally having the time of my life. I hope your life is as filled with joy, and your schedule is only as busy as you wish.

Hello,
It’s a new year. I hadn’t posted yet. Thought I would renew things a touch since it doesn’t seem like many messages are going through.
I hope you all are having a great start to the new year and you get to work on fun and exciting things and not just the hum drum stuff.
Hopefully, you have all had a chance to recharge a bit after the holiday rush and are at least partially healthy. You have to take care of yourselves to be able to do this work and take care of our families of workers and families at home.
Take care all!
