Hi Dan,
I’ve been doing a lot of research on the various applications for UVC, and other disinfecting means to help fight Covid-19.
In terms of keeping your Coils clean… they do great.
If you’re looking to purify the air going through your system and into your public spaces… they’re a bit more sketchy.
Getting the proper dosage of UVC to kill a pathogen requires 2 things; Dosage, and Duration.
With may systems, the coils are3 kept shiny because they are under constant dosage from the UVC. However, providing a powerful enough dosage to treat the air that may be in the air handler for a second or less is much more difficult.
The effectiveness of a UVC Air purifier is therefore limited by the overall power of the UVC source, and the pressure of your system. Also, the number of “turns” that your air handler does per hour.
Note, however, that there is mounting evidence that surface contamination is not the main vector for Covid-19 transmission, virus transmission in aerosols is… So, killing the virus in the air, while your space is occupied is the best way (currently known) to use UVC, or other means to help control the virus spread.
If you’d like to talk about it more, or see some of the research I’ve been looking at, I’d be happy to share. Reach out to me on-line.
