"Wenger" is an old Anishnabe/First Nations word that means, "let's
kill some stagehands."
I believe you are correct. The older things have a knack for hurting folks. The acoustical shell that flips up into place and an S hook clips into the aluminum vertical to hold it... yeah - lots of blood when that catches the wrong body part. Fingers pinched in folding risers. A friend in HS had her arm slashed open putting up a portable acoustical shell of theirs.
+3 for Stageright. I inherited a set when I was at Nicolet but had no info on the weight bearing capacities. Email to them with a "can I drive a Model T on this?" was returned within 48 hours with a "here's what you need to do to drive a model T on it - add two layers of plywood criss-crossed to cover the seams." Along with drawings and a full set of specs for the custom set I had.
I've been a fan of their choir risers ever since they came out.
Wenger's great for band storage, Flip-forms (every elementary music room should have these - good for school groups needing east set pieces, too), proper posture chairs (LOVE the cello chairs), marching band gear, Orff garage, etc. So send them some love when you need those products. Even their chairs for audience members are nice.
