Can't take too much credit for the idea.
When I started here 18 years ago (OMG!!), Glad was making "salad savers". Seran with an elastic rim to fit over the salad bow. The ATD or crew at the time had invested in a dozen or so of these things (still have them, plastic lasts forever in a dark room).
The shower caps are lighter weight plastic, but cheaper, so if they wear out, I don't care. A bag of 10 or 25 caps is at the dollar store.

Wish I had thought of that, I just replaced a bunch of smoke detectors and they all came with little "shower caps", presumably to shield them when painting.
