What the other guys said is correct. Though you might want to think about a white scrim instead of black. A white one when lit from the front in my opinion seems to hide things in the dark behind it better. Your eyes see that scrim bouncing light and your pupils contract to even out the stage lighting and thus hiding things in the dark behind it.
Now, a black one will disappear a lot better and be seen through a little more. As the white one will pick up any little bit of light and reflect it back to you.
You will still have to make sure your lighting isn't aiming straight from the front through the scrim because objects/persons in lighter colors will still show up some.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [SML] Scrim Suggestions Needed
Please use caution: This email was sent from outside of HCC.
I am looking for a scrim curtain that can easily be backlit (seen through) for action upstage, but when illuminated on the front hides any upstage activity.
Any suggestions as to the type of fabric and possible suppliers?
Thanks!
