[SML] A design question

(not a lawyer, just my rambling thoughts)

If you drew new set plans from memory of the TV show, which could resemble the original: not copyright. It won’t be close enough.
If you drew set plans while looking at stills/paused images of the TV show: drawings may be more accurate, but I doubt it would be close enough to break the law.
If you acquired copies of the set plans, and re-drew and built from those, I’m pretty sure that would be copyright infringement).

Subject: [SML] A design question

[CAUTION: Non-UBC Email]

For those of you who are smarter than me, (which is most of you), I have a design question. The local HS will be doing "Addams Family the Musical" & I have been asked to design the set. I would like to base my designs off of the classic TV show, but I am not sure if that breaks copyright law. (The last show I worked I had someone screaming copyright at my solutions to any problems.)

So where is the line here? Is their a line? Being this in a school setting, I would rather teach the kids the right way rather just get it done & hope no one is looking.
