No noise with the spring return.  Later in my career I started adding flow valves on the output in addition to mufflers to reduce the noise and slamming.  I built up a supply of the flow valves to put on the input and output and that reduced a large amount of noise.  

I couldn’t find this pic last night when I sent the original email but just ran across it.  These use such little air that there much less noise but can also benefit from flow valves and mufflers for the release of air.
