[SML] Traveler Track Noise

The first question I’d is what color are your carriers. If they’re red, you might consider changing them out for new ones. Many years ago ADC got a bad bunch of carriers and switched vendors. The good ones are black. The red ones? Not so much.

Not sure about lubrication. (Sorry Jon). Don’t know about H&H but last time I checked the ADC 280 carriers had sealed bearings. Whatever you put on them is gonna leak out at some point

Yes, cleaning the carriers and lubing them is the best advice. I do not remember the specific grease that H&H specified but we dedicated a grease gun with needle tips to relubing after a good clean out with WD40.

We have an ADC 280 traveler track for our mid-stage curtain. Each of the carriers turn freely but there is a loud squeaking as the curtain is opened/closed. Rubber spacers between carriers so it is not carriers binding up with each other. Noise is about mid track on each half. Track is level.

Any thoughts on how to reduce the noise?

Other than cleaning and lubricating per manufacturers directions. (Might be no lubrication) Carefully examine the track for dents, dings, straightness both horizontally and vertically. Look inside the track before cleaning for signs of scrapes or chafing. It's possible the drape is too heavy for the track and it is pulling it out of line between the hangers. Adding more hangers cures that. Check the hangers, they might be squeezing the sides of the track in just enough to cause a squeak.

If you can find the manual, RTFM.
I see you are an .edu address. if you have a technical theater class, or a mechanical engineering class on campus, pose it to them as a classroom practitum and see if they can figure it out while you go "Hmmm.." a lot.

Have fun,
Dale
