I'm guessing you already have more work responsibilities than is fair and
not particularly interested in more hours repairing cables and learning
skills you admittedly don't have an affinity for.
My guess is you can buy a new cable for less than someone would charge to
repair it and shipping costs. Quick Google says $3 to $25 for 5 to 10
feet, with a lot in the $10-$12 range.
Keep a box of non-working ones. Someday you might stumble on someone who
will repair them.
