My wife and 10yr old son went last year. The year with all the sleet, snow, rain . . .. take a warm coat, gloves, in case.

The hop-on/hop-off bus was wonderful for the kid. Got to see all the big name items, briefly. Can stop and get out at something that really is high on their list. The kid won't have energy to stand in line for EVERY tourist stop, but will want to tick off seeing Big Ben, Buckingham, Tower, Westminster, St Pauls. . . .

Remember that the 9 yr old won't be that interested in walking along the river for the sake of walking along the THAMES.

Hamely's toy store is to DIE for. 7 floors of toys.

The Eye, if the line ups are short enough, and weather is good.

Tower of London, and the skits done by performers/interpreters.

Maybe a museum for a morning or two, vs. all day long.

Plan a down day, where you don't leave the hotel. Card games, TV. Swimming pool. Just rest and chill out. Good for grand parents and 9yr olds. Then mom can go wander by herself and see something that interests her.

Legoland isn't too far away from London. Think Disney world without the Mouse.
