[SML] OT : Hanging Flat Screen TV

I'm not sure of anything.  As I mentioned, I found an outlet, 12-14" off the floor, and it had a piece of wood on the right hand side of it, BUT that wood did not extend 4' up where I tried to hang the bracket.

Are you sure there are vertical studs of a pine board wall? If 1 by vertical t&g pine, it's probably strong enough and it may be framed with a horizontal top and bottom and one or two between, perhaps 1 by furring nailed across studs or 2 by spanning further.
