For a friend, you say?
Most OSHA inspectors have no experience on or with a theatrical style grid. They could object to a number of things. The open wells are one. Typically there are a lot of overhead obstructions that they might also find objective. The number of things they don’t like is only limited by their imagination.
One of the way to short circuit their complaints is to declare the grid, loading bridge and the access to both a Limited Access Zone. This means that only authorized people are permitted in these areas. There are a number of things you have to do to control the Limited Access Zone; appropriate signage in the proper areas, documented training for all of your technicians who are authorized to work in these areas and all prudent steps to minimize the hazards. PPE, railings and/or Fall Arrest equipment, etc.
OSHA understands Limited Access Zones. They don’t understand grids.
Zat help?

Assuming you have a pretty typical grid, in good clean condition, what are they going to find and object to? Thinking specifically about the openings in the wells and they would want fall protection around the wells.
