I remember a production about 10 years ago where a bunch of us had
used EL wire for the first time... We wanted to know what made it
work, so were probing the power supply with a multi-meter.

A: Is it DC?
B: No.
A:Is it AC (50/60 Hz)?
B: No.
A: What kind of black magic is this?
B: (Grabbing wires) Yeowch!

Suffice it to say that higher frequencies hurt more. We were pretty
impressed at the time, especially since the included power supply was
also capable of running from a 9V battery--the actual wall wart was a
9V source with snap terminals. I assume they don't ship with those
anymore because some knucklehead would probably try to recharge a 9V
battery with it. IIRC, it was the "Cool Neon" brand/supplier.
