The late great Frank Woods always recommended, if not demanded, that one use torn strips of newspaper... either with thinned glue, thinned paint, or size. The process works quite well. I used to employ 3"-4" masking tape. If the flats were going to spattered as a paint technique, I would lay down long lengths of the tape on plexiglas and spatter them along with the flats. The Dutchmans made with this technique were invisible.

Does anyone else find the spelling or word usage in the subject matter of this thread kind of unsettling for some reason?
