I bought a Fenix E25 at REI some number of years ago; seems like a
decent light, pretty bright for running on AA batteries, but I didn't
put it into daily use because I find the switch mounted up front
rather weird and inefficient compared to a tailcap switch. They are
also made in China, so I don't know what their longevity is like. This
one spent most of its time as my backup light in my work bag.
Because I haven't been in the circuit much lately, I hadn't even
pulled it out for a few years. So, I got around to doing it and
noticed that the batteries had leaked and were stuck inside the
battery tube. Tried lots of tools, but I still couldn't get them
out... Unfortunately, they were just store-brand generic batteries, so
no such luck on having it replaced--had a MagLite replaced by
Energizer once for the same reason. But, the battery tube is a pretty
simple part and doesn't have any electronics in it, so I figured I'd
contact the manufacturer/distributor and see if I can get replacement
parts.
I sent an email to their support people via their website, and didn't
hear much for two weeks until I got a response that a replacement
battery tube would cost $8.50 shipped, and to call the customer
support representative's direct line with payment info. So, I called
with credit card in hand; he told me that, since the E25 has been out
of production for a while, they don't actually have any spare parts
left and so to get me a battery tube they'd have to take one from a
whole light, leaving a spare light head around. So, for $9.75 shipped
they sent me an entire replacement light.
I'd call that pretty good customer service, especially since the
original issue wasn't with their product at all--just some cheap
batteries and neglect. I think I probably paid around $50 for the
light however many years ago it was I first bought it.
On a side note, if anyone has a dead E25, I have an extra light head
hanging around.
