It seems there are a zillion options for how the eye's optical path can be dealt with, either as part of Cataract surgery, or to treat presbyopia, or any other vision correction.
One version has multi-focus, that puts both a near-focus and distant-focus lens on the implant. I don't like the idea, because I imagine it gives a out-of-focus images merged with an in-focused image.  Probably very bad for theater.  But, in reality, glare while driving at night is an issue for anyone.

have had both lenses replaced for cataracts, my doctor explained several options on foucus legenth. advising some patients opted for close focus in one eye and far in the other. I went for a closer focus on both eyes. now I can read the bottom line in the eye chart..  some times I get a shadow when light hits the edge of the lens inplant.  in some conditions I can see well but have trouble seing details like surface mount components. a simple magnifier helps
after surgery take care of the eyes so the heal properly.. expect to be more sensitive to bright head lights and flashing signage.  good luck

Cataract surgery is different than Lasik, both in procedure and results. I've had the former (in both eyes) over the past two years, and opted for replacement lenses that corrected for distance. Since then, I've had perfect distance vision (for the first time since kindergarten), and been able to get by with cheap readers for close-in stuff.

I've had no glare issues at all with my artificial lenses.

I had heard about glare from early Lasik but had not heard about it with cataract surgery. I am suppose to have it later this week on one eye. My Dr told me mine would correct my distance/astigmatism and after wards we would look at the right eye as I have one there but it is not as severe as my left eye. If we do both he said I should only need reading glasses. Been wearing multi focal for about 40 years. Also posted on FB group.

I seem to remember that this has come up in the past, but I wanted to check with people about what is happening now.
A friend and co-worker is going in for cataract surgery.  He has the choice between a lens that will correct the astigmatism or one that will improve sight as well.  The one that improves vision is reported to be more prone to glare in dark environments.
Since, he is a rigger/flyman/carpenter, he is concerned that the glare from looking up into the lights might make it harder to work.
Any help or experiences would be appreciated.
The model of lens is a Technis Multifocal 10L by Abbot.
Thanks,
John
