Just a wild out there thought.... 
I wonder if the  gigabytes worth of stuff is taking too long to sync and not displaying anything.
Have you tried setting up a ftp location with only one file in it, and then FTP'ing to that?

I've tried two different FTP clients on my 'droid and with both they say they log in and authenticate fine, but then say the folder is empty. When I log in to the same place with Filazilla from Linux, I see gigabytes worth of stuff.

Any ideas? 

Besides "don't use the Android for FTP"?
