[SML] [EXTERNAL] Theatre Cameras

Simone,
There are several kinds of cameras that will do what you are looking for. You may need to talk to a company rep to give them info so they can provide you with the correct camera. The information you will need for that is the length of shot from camera to middle of area (middle of area= the middle of the back to the front of your stage for example), how high you need it to cover and how wide.

1. If you currently have hard wired cameras then that kind will be your easiest to reinstall.

2. If you want to go to a networked camera then all your gear has to be able to deal with that signal or at least have a converter somewhere along the line and either adding or replacing lines.

3. If you want to use PTZ (point to, zoom) cameras then you will need several additional cables. Typically one is power from the control station, one is control, the other is a return signal.
As you step from 1 to 3 you get increased cost for a completed system. Even if you don’t change out your tv’s/monitors.

One good company to look at for this is Vaddio. But, there are many others especially if you are going with just a replacement hardwired camera.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [SML] Theatre Cameras

We're looking to upgrade our camera system in our theatre and don't have much knowledge in the area. We have a camera that broadcasts the stage to a couple of TVs in our lobby and green room so actors can watch the action onstage while they are waiting for cues. Does anyone have a camera they love for this? Our main concern is finding something that can handle the quick switch from blackouts to bright theatre lighting. We also want something that zooms and can move around. Also does anyone have any insight on the pros and cons of using network cameras as opposed to hardwired cameras for theatrical purposes? Our current camera is hardwired.

Thanks!
